Current Research and Inovation

TWI's Ceramics Group has been actively involved in a number of innovations and developments in ceramics technology, including:

  • Invention of TeMuS a high temperature refractory material
  • Invention of a novel interlayer design for joining ceramics to metals
  • Development of friction welding of aluminium to aluminium nitride for electronic heat sinks
  • Development of microwave heating techniques for diffusion bonding alumina, silicon carbide and zirconia ceramics
  • The devising of a method for producing hard ceramic coatings on fibrous thermal ceramics for combustion liners
