Background to TWI Technology Centre (Yorkshire) Ltd

TWI's business model brings companies into industrial membership in order to offer them confidential contract work, expert support, and training, amongst other services. The new facilities in Yorkshire represent a significant enhancement of equipment and expertise available to member companies.

The development of this regional office has allowed TWI to invest in new state-of-the-art equipment. Two friction stir welding machines provide further variety and flexibility to the FSW capabilities of the company, and two new lasers have allowed TWI to explore new equipment and process technologies.

In addition to this, funding from Yorkshire Forward and Objective 1 South Yorkshire is enabling TWI Technology Centre (Yorkshire) to support Small and Medium sized Enterprises (SMEs) in Yorkshire and Humber by making the full range of TWI's services available to them through Technology Transfer programmes. Already a significant number of SMEs have been assisted in a variety of ways, some examples being the optimisation of factory layout, review of production procedures, and introduction of alternative manufacturing processes. Read the case studies for more details.

The Yorkshire office has been set up and equipped with support from Yorkshire Forward (the Regional Development Agency for Yorkshire and Humber) and the local government office Objective 1 South Yorkshire.

TWI Technology Centre (Yorkshire) Ltd is a TWI Group company.
